Warrant Issued for Minnesota Mother After 'Magic Mushroom' Candy Sickens 2 Elementary Students

A search of her Cokato home allegedly found fentanyl, methamphetamine and paraphernalia accessible to children.

Overview

  • Authorities say a 6-year-old brought a "Mmeld Magic Mushroom" chocolate bar to Cokato Elementary on Sept. 10, ate it and shared it with a 5-year-old boy.
  • Staff recovered packaging labeled for adults only and indicating six grams of psychedelic mushrooms, and both children were hospitalized and later recovered.
  • Wright County charged 39-year-old Cassie Rae Tauriainen with child endangerment, storing meth paraphernalia in the presence of a child and fifth-degree drug possession, and issued an arrest warrant.
  • Deputies report finding fentanyl, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in multiple rooms of Tauriainen’s residence, with items within a child’s reach.
  • Tauriainen told the Star Tribune she disputes that the chocolate came from her refrigerator, acknowledges negligence, denies avoiding arrest and says she is entering inpatient treatment.
