Warner Bros. Begins Filming Korean Remake of The Intern in Seoul

The project is the first title from Warner Bros. Discovery’s first-look pact with Jack Nguyen’s JOAT Films, signaling a push to localize studio IP in Asia.

Overview

  • Han So-hee plays the startup CEO opposite Choi Min-sik as the seasoned senior intern in the local retelling.
  • Kim Do-young, known for Kim Ji-young: Born 1982, is directing the remake.
  • Warner Bros. Korea is co-producing with JOAT Films and Anthology Studios, with principal photography running from September through December in Seoul.
  • The film inaugurates the WBD–JOAT first-look collaboration focused on Asia-focused, local-language reimaginings.
  • The 2015 original was a notable hit in South Korea, grossing about $24 million, which underscores the commercial logic for a localized version.
