Warehouse Destroyed by Major Fire in Tottenham

Emergency crews remain on site extinguishing deep-seated hotspots.

Overview

  • A large blaze broke out late on Thursday night at an industrial estate on Watermead Way in Tottenham, with the first of more than 20 emergency calls received at about 10:51pm.
  • The London Fire Brigade deployed around 15 fire engines and roughly 100 firefighters from multiple north-London stations and used 32-metre turntable ladders and drones to tackle the fire from above.
  • The two-storey building used for vehicle maintenance was destroyed and part of an adjoining unit was damaged, and there have been no reported injuries.
  • Firefighters brought most of the blaze under control after about four hours but continued to deal with deep-seated hotspots into the morning, and road closures on Watermead Way remain in place, causing local travel disruption.
  • The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation, with fire scene examinations ongoing and the London Fire Brigade advising residents to keep windows and doors closed because of lingering smoke.
