Overview
- Sonam Wangchuk remains detained under the National Security Act and is lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail following violence in Leh that left four dead and more than 80 injured.
- The Ladakh administration said the detention rests on credible inputs, asserted that grounds of detention were served, and cited ongoing probes into HIAL’s finances, foreign funding and an already cancelled land lease.
- Gitanjali Angmo said she has not been allowed to speak with her husband, alleged surveillance of the HIAL campus, reported media restrictions, and raised concerns about his access to clothes and medicines after a recent fast.
- Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance have suspended dialogue with the Centre, conditioning any resumption on a judicial inquiry, the release of detainees and the dropping of charges against Wangchuk.
- Authorities imposed curfew and suspended mobile internet in Leh, detained over 50 people including LAB office-bearers, and a CPI-M MP said he was refused a meeting with Wangchuk at Jodhpur jail.
