Wanamaker Light Show Reopens to Packed Crowds, One-Season Run Before Renovations

A coalition of donors, sponsors, union electricians enabled a one‑season revival before a renovation pause.

Overview

  • The Black Friday comeback drew capacity lines around the Wanamaker Building, with more than 7,000 people attending opening day.
  • Shows run on select days through Christmas Eve with hourly start times from 12:30 p.m., followed by Wanamaker Grand Organ concerts at about 12:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. (12:45 p.m. only on Dec. 24).
  • Dickens Village has reopened on the third floor with free timed tickets released five days before each date.
  • The restart was made possible by the Save the Light Show campaign, sponsorships including PECO, and an IBEW Local 98 three‑person crew credited with key technical support.
  • A new ground‑floor holiday market featuring about 30 local vendors has launched, and organizers plan a multi‑year pause for renovations with an expected return in 2028.
