Walsall Appoints Lee Grant as Head Coach on Three-Year Deal
The long-term hire signals a reset built on player development with a clear promotion target.
Overview
- Grant was appointed Thursday on a three-year contract to lead the League Two club.
- He replaces interim Darren Byfield after Mat Sadler was sacked in March.
- Walsall led the division at Christmas but fell to 13th, winning only one of their last 13 home league matches.
- Head of football Stewart Mairs said a thorough search identified Grant’s alignment on an attacking style and player development.
- Grant, 43, coached under Kieran McKenna at Ipswich and had an eight-month spell in charge of Huddersfield before a January exit, and he now faces a busy off-season as the club targets a return to League One after eight years in the fourth tier.
