Overview
- Authorities identified the driver as Kevin Bell, 67, who struck a stopped patrol car on the 3600 block of Mount Diablo Boulevard near the Lafayette BART Station around 2:18 p.m. Friday.
- The collision pushed the cruiser into the vehicle ahead, causing major rear damage to the patrol car and major front damage to Bell’s vehicle.
- A small fire ignited in the patrol car’s trunk, which officers quickly extinguished with a fire extinguisher.
- Two Lafayette officers plus the other driver were treated at a local hospital and released.
- Bell was booked on felony counts of driving under the influence causing injury and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher.
