Walmart Opens $350 Million Valdosta Milk Plant to Supply 650+ Southeast Stores

The second self-operated dairy facility expands Walmart’s control over grocery sourcing to stabilize prices.

Overview

  • Walmart’s more than 300,000-square-foot Valdosta plant will package milk for Great Value and Sam’s Club’s Member’s Mark brands.
  • The facility will source from North Florida and South Georgia dairy farms, with many suppliers located about 60 miles away.
  • More than 400 jobs are being created at the site, with wages expected to top $60,000 a year, according to local coverage.
  • Walmart marked the opening with community grants, including $5,000 to Greater Valdosta United Way and $8,000 to the Valdosta High School Marching Cats.
  • The launch follows prior investments in an Indiana dairy plant and case-ready beef facilities in Georgia and Kansas, as Walmart shares traded slightly lower but near a 52-week high.
