Redfield will stay on as an advisor but will officially step down May 1.
Walmart recently reported a weaker-than-expected outlook for the year ahead in February.
Walmart's CEO said consumers have become more price-sensitive due to rising inflation.
Redfield had run Walmart's U.S. grocery and food operation since 2015 before being promoted to chief merchandising officer.
