Walmart Confirms Thanksgiving Day Closures, Reopens 6 A.M. Black Friday

The retailer says the holiday closure is meant to give employees time off.

Overview

  • All U.S. locations will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, with stores reopening at 6 a.m. local time on Friday, Nov. 28 for Black Friday deals.
  • The move continues a policy adopted in 2020 that Walmart frames as a thank-you to associates and a chance for them to spend the day with family.
  • Target and Costco will also be closed, while some grocers and pharmacies such as Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, CVS, Walgreens and Dollar General plan reduced hours.
  • Early holiday discounts are already available online, and Walmart+ members receive advance access ahead of in-store events.
  • Pharmacy and other in-store services at Walmart will be unavailable on Thanksgiving, with normal extended hours resuming for Black Friday shopping.
