Walmart and Wing Add 150 Stores to Drone Delivery, Bringing Service to Four New Metros

The partners aim to operate from about 270 locations by 2027, reaching roughly 40 million people.

Overview

  • New coverage will include Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with additional cities to be named later.
  • Houston service is slated to begin on January 15 as the rollout continues through 2026 and into 2027.
  • The program, already live in Dallas–Fort Worth and Atlanta, currently operates at roughly 27 stores after earlier launches in those regions and northwest Arkansas.
  • Wing reports rising use, with its top quarter of customers ordering about three times a week and deliveries tripling over the past six months; Walmart+ members get drone delivery free, while non-members pay $19.99.
  • Drones carry up to around 5 pounds within a roughly 6-mile radius using tethered drop-offs under FAA Part 135 approvals, as the industry awaits potential BVLOS changes under a proposed Part 108 rule.
