Walkinshaw Opens 100,000sqm Dandenong South Facility as Ram Sets November Relocation

Company leaders say the consolidation will protect local jobs, keeping customer deliveries on track through year‑end.

Overview

  • Walkinshaw says the new Melbourne site can build more than 20,000 vehicles a year and accommodate up to 1,500 employees across multiple production lines.
  • Ram Trucks Australia will shift its 1500, 2500 and 3500 remanufacturing from Clayton to the new facility in November, with first vehicles due off the line by the end of 2025.
  • Ram states the move secures the roles of more than 270 factory, warehouse, quality and engineering staff, and it expects no interruption to customer deliveries during the transition.
  • Right-hand-drive conversions for Chevrolet Silverado and Silverado HD, Toyota Tundra and GMC Yukon are expected to be consolidated at the Dandenong South site, though detailed plans were not disclosed.
  • Ram and Walkinshaw cite more than 35,000 Ram pickups converted in Australia since 2015, with sector employment estimated at roughly 3,000 when suppliers are included.
