Wales Expands Speed Camera Enforcement With Newport Activations and Merthyr 20mph Cameras Set for Nov. 15

GoSafe introduces an advice-letter grace period for newly activated Welsh speed cameras.

Overview

  • Four new fixed cameras began enforcement in Newport on November 1 at Kingsway, two Malpas Road junctions, and Chepstow Road in Langstone.
  • Three fixed 20mph cameras are scheduled to go live on November 15 on the A4054 in Merthyr Tydfil at Troedyrhiw northbound and southbound and Edwardsville eastbound.
  • For the first four weeks after each activation, drivers recorded speeding by these new fixed cameras will receive advice letters rather than fines or points, with one letter allowed per driver in Wales.
  • The average speed camera on Llangyfelach Road in Swansea that was cut down in 2024 has been replaced, and police said a man arrested on suspicion of criminal damage faced no further action due to lack of evidence.
  • GoSafe also plans mobile enforcement across key South Wales routes throughout November, including locations on the M4, A48, A466 and near the Prince of Wales Bridge toll plaza.
