Overview

  • In a deposition filed June 12, Skaggs’ former agent Ryan Hamill testified that Skaggs admitted to receiving Percocet from Wade Miley during their 2013 season with the Diamondbacks.
  • The Skaggs family’s 2021 lawsuit alleges that the Angels failed to address an entrenched drug culture that led to Tyler’s fatal overdose in 2019.
  • In its motion for summary judgment, the Angels argue that Skaggs’ decade-long addiction and procurement from multiple sources preclude any negligence claim under the unclean hands doctrine.
  • Eric Kay, the Angels’ former communications director, was convicted in 2022 of distributing fentanyl-laced pills and received a 22-year prison sentence for his role in Skaggs’ death.
  • Miley, now a 38-year-old starter for the Cincinnati Reds, faces no criminal charges and has not been formally accused beyond the civil case.
