WA Family’s Citizen’s Arrest Halts Alleged Carjacking Spree

The accused remains in custody after being refused bail in Armadale Magistrates Court.

Overview

  • Police allege a 31-year-old Brabham man began the spree about 3:30am in Gosnells by forcing his way into a woman's car, making threats while holding what appeared to be a firearm, and indecently assaulting her.
  • The first stolen vehicle was later found crashed in Bindoon, where a home was allegedly burgled, a second car was taken and a third vehicle was targeted.
  • Dean Bathurst and his two sons restrained the suspect for about 30 minutes after finding him in their car, holding him until officers arrived from Toodyay.
  • Authorities say a flick knife was seized when the man was taken into custody.
  • The man has been charged with multiple offences including armed robbery, deprivation of liberty, indecent assault and vehicle theft, and he was denied bail.
