VW to Halt Zwickau and Dresden for a Week From Oct. 6

Volkswagen says the changes reflect weak demand for its electric models.

Overview

  • The Zwickau and Dresden plants will stop production for one week starting 6 October, Volkswagen confirmed.
  • Osnabrück will idle at least one day each week through year-end and take an additional week-long pause in October, the company said.
  • Potential closure days in Emden are still being negotiated with the works council, with a decision expected next week according to FAZ.
  • Wolfsburg will run extra weekend shifts through Christmas to meet strong demand for the Golf, Tiguan and Tayron, brand chief Thomas Schäfer has noted.
  • The company says it is aligning output by site with current orders, citing weak EV demand for cuts at Zwickau and Emden and soft cabrio sales in Osnabrück.
