VW Pulls Ahead in Germany’s EV Market as Tesla Slips and BYD Gains Ground

Official data show battery-electric cars reached 18.8% of 2025 registrations through November.

  • Tesla’s Model Y has fallen to 12th in the year-to-date BEV rankings after topping the list in 2024.
  • BYD logged more than 4,000 new registrations in November, with its Seal U the month’s most-registered plug-in hybrid at 1,552, a jump of over 830% year on year.
  • November saw about 55,740 BEV registrations, up 58.5% with BEVs exceeding a 22% monthly share, a spike partly explained by last year’s subsidy-related base effect.
