VW Confirms €25,000 ID. Polo Won’t Be Available at April 2026 Order Start

Volkswagen cites later readiness of the low-cost LFP battery as the reason.

Overview

  • At the configuration opening, only the 155 kW model with the 52 kWh NMC pack is expected to be offered, with dealers estimating prices well above €25,000 and possibly over €30,000.
  • Volkswagen says the entry version will become orderable a few weeks later, but dealer sources told Handelsblatt it could take half to three quarters of a year.
  • Orders are scheduled to begin in April 2026, and first customer deliveries of the initially available variants are planned from late summer 2026.
  • The higher-capacity NMC batteries are to come from VW’s PowerCo cell plant in Salzgitter, while reporting indicates the cheaper LFP cells will initially be sourced from external suppliers.
  • Industry comparisons note similar launch sequencing at rivals, and analysts warn a delayed budget trim could push buyers toward alternatives such as the Dacia Spring, Hyundai Inster, Citroën e-C3, BYD Dolphin Surf, and Fiat 500e.
