- The Aga Khan Development Network announced the new season at a media roundtable on Tuesday, where Jawad Sharif’s 2021 film The Colour of Smog was screened to underscore Lahore’s ongoing air-quality crisis.
- Executive producer Andrew Tkach said Season Four features 10 short documentaries made by filmmakers from Pakistan, Mongolia and Central Asian countries.
- The lineup focuses on air pollution, melting and retreating glaciers, water scarcity, floods, landslides and avalanches, with stories that also highlight community-led solutions such as reviving ancient water canals and protecting wildlife.
- The Third Pole’s glaciers provide life-sustaining water to an estimated 1.6 billion people downstream, framing the urgency of the series’ subjects.
- VRW is supported by Aga Khan University, the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, the University of Central Asia and the Aga Khan Foundation, and the series has earned honors including Columbia University’s John B. Oakes Award with selections at more than 50 festivals.
