Vox Holds Leverage as PP Seeks Successor to Mazón Under Investiture Deadline

Key legal deadlines now constrain talks over a successor.

Overview

  • Carlos Mazón has formally resigned and remains in office in a caretaker capacity, keeping his seat in Les Corts and the legal protection of aforamiento.
  • The PP has not settled on a nominee, with Juanfran Pérez Llorca and María José Catalá in the frame while Vicent Mompó is ruled out for now because he is not a regional deputy.
  • Vox denies prior arrangements and Santiago Abascal has criticized the PP over the process, as PP secretary general Miguel Tellado publicly urges Vox to enable a stable transition.
  • The timetable now runs: parties have 12 days to register candidates (to Nov. 19), the investiture debate must be called within 3–7 days thereafter, and failure to secure a president within two months would dissolve Les Corts and likely send Valencians to the polls in spring 2026.
  • Vox has stepped up policy demands in the institutions, including scrapping inclusive language in Les Corts, abolishing the LGTBI commission and altering statistical classifications, adding friction to PP–Vox negotiations.
