Overview
- In a parliamentary oversight session, Vox deputy Manuel Mariscal said his party would dismiss several RTVE presenters and asked whether to enter the broadcaster “with chainsaw or with flamethrower.”
- Mariscal had posted on X that Giró “will be summarily fired” when Vox controls RTVE and claimed the host earns €3,800 per episode from public funds.
- RTVE president José Pablo López publicly backed Giró at the commission, joked that he found the monologue funny, and dismissed Vox’s accusations.
- The clash followed a Late Xou segment on 23 September in which Giró satirized the “varón español” and interviewed Open Arms founder Òscar Camps about sea rescues.
- Mariscal also singled out Javier Ruiz, Jesús Cintora, Silvia Intxaurrondo and Buenafuente, and no dismissal or sanction has been announced.
