Vote Counting Underway in Pakistan By-Elections as Early Leads Emerge

Official results will follow Returning Officers’ certifications under tight ECP controls on security and result dissemination.

Overview

  • Polling ran from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. across six National Assembly and seven Punjab Assembly constituencies, with counting now in progress.
  • Unofficial tallies from select stations showed PML-N and PTI-backed independents leading in NA-185, NA-143, NA-18, NA-129 and other contests, though all figures remain provisional.
  • NA-66 Wazirabad was decided earlier with PML-N’s Bilal Farooq Tarar elected unopposed after rival withdrawals.
  • The ECP barred media from airing unofficial results for one hour after polls closed and reiterated that only Returning Officers may issue official outcomes.
  • Security was heightened with more than 20,000 Punjab police deployed, CCTV at highly sensitive sites, and Pakistan Army troops designated as a reserve force from Nov. 22–24.
