Volvo Revives XC70 as Long-Range Plug-In Hybrid, Opens Pre-Orders in China

Volvo positions the China-first model as its longest-range PHEV to ease buyers into electrification.

Overview

  • Production has begun and pre-orders are live in China, with pre-sale prices listed at 299,900 to 329,900 yuan.
  • Two variants are offered: a front-wheel-drive model with a 21.2 kWh LFP battery rated at 116 km CLTC and 314 hp, and an all-wheel-drive version with a 39.6 kWh NMC pack rated at 212 km CLTC and 456 hp.
  • DC fast charging takes the larger battery from 0% to 80% in about 23 minutes (up to 87 kW), with 7 kW AC charging quoted at roughly 4 hours for the smaller pack and 7 hours for the larger one.
  • The powertrain pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine and up to three electric motors via a dedicated hybrid transmission, delivering a quoted combined driving range of over 1,200 km.
  • A European introduction is planned at a later stage, and multiple outlets report U.S. sales are unlikely soon due to China production and high import tariffs.
