Volvo Launches Refreshed XC90 in South Africa With Standard Air Suspension and Updated Tech

The local lineup launches in four priced variants featuring carryover B5 mild-hybrid powertrains or the T8 plug-in setup.

Overview

  • Air suspension is now standard on all variants, with adaptive dampers retained for improved comfort and composure.
  • Powertrains are unchanged: the B5 mild hybrid delivers 183kW and 350Nm, while the T8 PHEV produces 340kW and 709Nm with up to 70km of electric-only range; both use an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
  • The cabin gains an 11.2-inch touchscreen running Google services with wireless Apple CarPlay and over-the-air updates, plus recycled-material inlays and Harman Kardon audio in Plus or Bowers & Wilkins in Ultra.
  • Exterior updates include a new grille, revised Matrix LED ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights, refreshed rear light graphics, and standard 21-inch wheels with 22-inch options, alongside added sound insulation for a quieter ride.
  • South African pricing: B5 Plus at R1,555,500; B5 Ultra at R1,657,500; T8 PHEV Plus at R1,834,500; T8 PHEV Ultra at R1,936,500, with a five-year/100,000km warranty and service plan, five years roadside assistance, and an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty on T8 models.
