Overview
- Eighteen complete structural and forest gear sets were delivered on July 13 to the municipalities of Villa Jiménez, Tuxpan, Huiramba and Panindícuaro.
- Captain Alan González Álvarez of Bomberos Voluntarios de Michoacán IAP led the delivery ceremony in Morelia’s central plaza.
- Each set consists of a firefighting jacket, structural and forest pants, shirts and basic tools to strengthen local emergency response.
- Through agreements with volunteer departments in North Carolina, Florida and California, the gear cost just 18,000 pesos in shipping compared with up to 40,000 pesos for new suits.
- With around 85% of Michoacán municipalities relying solely on volunteer corps without salaries or social security, stakeholders are urging creation of a legal framework to ensure sustainable support.
