Overview
- Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Robotaxi represents the company’s first fully autonomous production vehicle, developed by its MOIA ride-pooling arm for shared mobility services.
- The van uses Mobileye’s self-driving system powered by 27 sensors —including 13 cameras, nine LiDAR units and five radars —to achieve Level 4 autonomy within defined urban areas.
- Purpose-built for ride-hailing operations, it features a longer wheelbase, raised roof and minimalist four-seat interior, with smartphone-based boarding replacing traditional interfaces.
- Vehicles are slated to begin operating in select European and U.S. cities starting 2026, following an initial launch in Hamburg.
- MOIA will supply a turnkey package for operators that includes autonomous driving tech, intelligent fleet management software, passenger support and comprehensive training.
