Volkswagen Unveils Compact EV Lineup at IAA, Led by ID. Cross Prototype and Near-Production ID. Polo

Volkswagen sets a €25,000 target to broaden EV access with a new compact lineup built on front-drive MEB platforms.

Overview

  • ID. Cross debuts as a compact electric SUV with a 155 kW front motor, an estimated 420 km WLTP range, 4.16 m length, a 450-litre boot and a 25-litre frunk.
  • Volkswagen says the production ID. Cross will get its world premiere in summer 2026, while the ID. Polo is slated for a May 2026 global reveal and autumn 2026 market launch.
  • The group targets starting prices around €25,000 for these compact models and previews an ID. EVERY1 prototype for 2027 at roughly €20,000.
  • Cupra Raval and Škoda Epiq join the push for 2026 on the same MEB+/MEB Entry front-drive architecture geared to high-volume, lower-cost EVs.
  • VW highlights software-centric features and practical interiors, including dual displays and an 'Essenziale' mode that simplifies screens when a phone is placed face down on the charger.
