Overview

  • The software upgrade raises ID.3 Pro’s output from 150 kW (204 PS) to 170 kW (231 PS) and boosts torque from 265 Nm to 310 Nm while preserving VW’s claimed 434 km WLTP range.
  • Buyers activate the upgrade via the in-car shop touchscreen or VW’s website once they have a Volkswagen ID account, a VW Connect contract and software version 3.2.1.
  • In Germany the upgrade costs €629 as a one-off purchase or €18.90 per month; in the UK VW ships ID.3 Pro models limited to 204 PS at the factory and unlocks 230 PS for about €19 per month or a one-time fee of roughly €754.
  • All ID.3 Pro registrations list the 170 kW maximum output regardless of whether drivers purchase the upgrade, raising potential transparency and regulatory questions.
  • The paid power-up model extends VW’s Functions on Demand strategy but risks consumer backlash similar to BMW’s aborted 2022 seat-heating subscription.
