Volkswagen Recasts Entry EV as ID. Polo, Launching in 2026 for About €25,000

VW brings back household model names in its electric range to bolster clarity for mainstream buyers.

Overview

  • The ID. Polo replaces the ID.2 nameplate and will enter the market in 2026 as Volkswagen’s new electric small car at roughly €25,000.
  • Built on the upgraded MEB+ platform, the model will offer multiple power levels, a new efficiency battery, standard DC fast charging, and front‑wheel drive.
  • A performance variant branded ID. Polo GTI with 166 kW (226 PS) is scheduled to debut later in the launch year.
  • Seat/Cupra led development in Spain, where production will take place, as part of a four‑model small‑EV family that also spans the Cupra Raval, the Škoda Epiq, and a compact SUV called ID. Cross.
  • Volkswagen will sell electric and combustion versions side by side in the same segments and is preparing a lower‑cost EV targeting around €20,000 under the working title ID.1 in roughly two years.
