Overview
- Volkswagen confirmed Monday that the ID. Tiguan will be revealed in early October and that European deliveries will start in early 2027 with a later, undated launch planned for North America.
- The ID. Tiguan is a substantial redesign of the ID.4 with all new exterior sheet metal and is built on an updated MEB+ platform that Volkswagen says brings motor and efficiency improvements.
- Prototype testing and press drives show a more conventional SUV silhouette, new door handles and a revised lighting signature, while technical reports expect base rear-wheel drive, optional dual-motor all-wheel drive, and 58 kWh LFP and 77 kWh NMC battery options.
- Volkswagen says the model change is strategic: it will retire the ID.4 name, discontinue the coupé-style ID.5, and use the well-known Tiguan name to improve recognition after uneven ID.4 performance and a halt to U.S. ID.4 assembly in Chattanooga.
- Inside the cabin Volkswagen plans to add physical controls for windows, volume and climate and to ship an updated Android Automotive infotainment system to address earlier complaints about touch-heavy controls and software quality.
