Overview
- Volkswagen confirmed Monday that the all-new ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5, will debut in early October, and will reach European customers in early 2027 with North America to follow at a later date.
- Prototype photos and company remarks show a more conventional Tiguan-like exterior with pull-type door handles and full-width lighting designed to align the EV with Volkswagen’s gasoline Tiguan.
- The ID. Tiguan is built on Volkswagen’s updated MEB+ electric platform and will offer rear-wheel drive at entry level with an optional dual-motor all-wheel drive layout for higher trims.
- Technical details remain unannounced but reports say Volkswagen plans to use LFP batteries for lower-cost versions and likely updated versions of the ID.4’s 58-kWh and 77-kWh packs while charging and range figures are still to be revealed.
- The model consolidation follows modest ID.4 sales, a pause in Chattanooga ID.4 production, and heavy dealer discounts, so the car’s final pricing and real-world range will be key to whether VW can regain U.S. market momentum.
