Volkswagen Confirms ID. Polo EV and GTI as It Moves Legacy Names Into Electric Lineup

Using familiar nameplates aims to improve EV recognition, with lower price targets.

Overview

  • VW says the ID.2all will enter production in 2026 as the ID. Polo, the first model in a strategy to carry established ICE names into the ID electric family.
  • Camouflaged, near‑production ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI will appear at IAA Mobility in Munich starting September 8, with an ID. Cross concept debuting on September 7.
  • The ID. Cross is planned as the electric counterpart to the T‑Cross, with VW targeting a production launch at the end of 2026.
  • Volkswagen signals further migrations of familiar badges — such as Golf, Tiguan and Passat — to future ID models, while current combustion models keep their existing names.
  • Positioned on the cost‑optimized MEB Entry platform, the ID. Polo targets a starting price around or below €25,000 and will reintroduce more physical controls with upgraded interior materials.
