Volenergy to Buy BP’s Entire Austrian Service Network

BP says the sale will strengthen its balance sheet and let the company refocus investment with regulatory approval still pending.

Overview

  • The agreement covers all 250 BP-branded stations in Austria and transfers ownership of BP Retail Austria GmbH to Swiss energy group Volenergy.
  • Stations will continue to use the bp brand under a license from BP and are expected to operate with little immediate change for customers during the transition.
  • The deal package includes Austria’s EV charging network, BP’s fleet business, and BP stakes in three joint ventures, while Air bp and Castrol are excluded and remain with BP.
  • Roughly 115 of the 250 sites are owned by BP and run under a franchise model while the rest are dealer-operated or unmanned, and both firms have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.
  • Closing is subject to regulatory clearances and is targeted by the end of 2026, and BP says the sale is part of a wider downstream reshaping to concentrate capital on more competitive assets and markets.
