Overview

  • Scammers impersonate banks, package companies or government agencies to prompt victims into uttering “Sí”, “Hola”, “Aló” during phone calls.
  • Recorded words are edited or enhanced with AI to forge authorization tapes for loans, contracts or service activations without consent.
  • Since mid-July, voice-cloning fraud has escalated across Mexico and Argentina, following earlier SMS phishing and AI video-call schemes.
  • INCIBE, Enacom, WhatsApp and telecom providers have updated recommendations urging neutral questions and silent pauses to thwart voice capture.
  • Users should never share personal data, activate two-factor authentication and hang up on unknown or pressuring calls to prevent identity theft.
