Overview
- The Vizhinjam International Seaport received its first import container on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, which arrived from Ningbo, China aboard the vessel MSC Sabrina III and was received at an official ceremony with MLA M. Vincent and senior port and customs officials.
- The consignment was booked by local startup BS2G Logistics and Ship Chandlers Pvt Ltd for the Alteir Group and carried engineered WPC foam boards brought to the port by entrepreneurs Gouri Devanand and Greeshma Devanand.
- Port authorities said the arrival marks a move from pure transshipment work to landed import handling at Vizhinjam, allowing importers to clear customs at the port and deliver goods to Kerala without routing through other ports.
- Officials and local leaders say the new capability could shorten delivery times, lower transport costs, keep logistics revenue inside the state, and create jobs in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, transport and warehousing, though those gains require higher container volumes and stronger inland links.
- BS2G says more import consignments are being arranged through Vizhinjam and the port — which opened EXIM gateway traffic in August — will need sustained shipper interest, customs throughput and inland connectivity to turn this milestone into regular trade flows.
