Overview

  • The vivo X Fold5 went on sale in India on July 30 priced at ₹149,999 for the 16GB/512GB model and packs a pioneering 6,000 mAh semi-solid Si/C battery with 80W wired and 40W wireless charging.
  • Samsung India reported 210,000 pre-orders for its latest foldables in 48 hours, leading the Galaxy Z Fold7 to sell out in select regions and prompting a production increase at its Noida plant.
  • Independent testing by the Korean Consumer-Centered Enterprise Association confirmed the Galaxy Z Fold7 as the world’s thinnest book-style foldable, while Samsung Display rated its panel for up to 500,000 folds at room temperature and durable performance in extreme heat and cold.
  • Some early Z Fold7 users have struggled to open the ultra-thin device one-handed, resorting to low-tech grip tape solutions to improve traction on its slim edges and strong magnets.
  • Both companies are enhancing software support and features, with vivo promising four Android upgrades and five years of security updates and Samsung’s One UI 8 delivering AI-driven multitasking and strengthened privacy tools.
