Vitoria-Gasteiz and Getxo Detail European Mobility Week Plans With Car‑Free Days and Free Transit

Officials released programmes designed to shift trips toward public transport, cycling and walking.

Overview

  • Vitoria-Gasteiz will offer free rides on urban buses, the BEI and the tram on Monday, 22 September for its Día Sin Coche, with the local taxi sector distributing €3 discount vouchers.
  • The city will activate a Low Emission Zone and expand regulated OTA parking on 15 September as policy measures complementing the week’s activities.
  • Getxo scheduled its Día Sin Coche for Sunday, 21 September, closing Mayor de Las Arenas and Telletxe de Algorta to traffic from 11:00–14:00 and 17:00–20:00, with parking and circulation limits from 08:00–20:00.
  • Inclusive mobility initiatives in Getxo include ‘En bici, sin edad y sin barreras’ from 18–20 September, offering adapted tricycle rides for older adults and people with reduced mobility, plus a #Walk15 step challenge.
  • Vitoria’s programme features cycle gymkhanas, technical talks on shared mobility, a family bike ride, and a ‘Gran Pedaleada Sostenible’ with 60 static bikes displaying real‑time CO2 reductions.
