Vitens Issues Boil-Water Advisory for About 85,000 Residents in Amersfoort Area After Enterococci Found

Testing detected enterococci at the Hogeweg production site, with a customer update due January 8.

Overview

  • The precaution applies to parts of Amersfoort, Achterveld, Bunschoten-Spakenburg, Leusden, Soest, Soesterberg, Hoogland, Hooglanderveen, Woudenberg and nearby villages including De Glind, Stoutenburg, Stoutenburg-Noord and Terschuur.
  • Residents should boil tap water for three minutes before drinking, preparing food or brushing teeth, while showering and handwashing remain safe.
  • Vitens says boiled water is safe for use and buying bottled water is unnecessary.
  • The company is investigating the source at the Hogeweg facility, cannot yet say how long the advisory will last, and will provide an update on January 8 while keeping supply running.
  • Customers have been notified by email and SMS, vulnerable facilities such as hospitals and care homes are being contacted directly, and a postcode checker is available as the advisory follows earlier regional boil notices in November and during the Christmas period.
