Visa Leads September Contactless Rebates for AMBA Transit After Fare Hike

The monthlong rebates aim to cushion higher fares by steering riders to NFC wallet payments on smartphones.

Overview

  • Visa reimburses 100% of eligible subway and bus trips paid via NFC on a smartphone with Argentine‑issued Visa cards, capped at ARS 10,000 per card through September.
  • Physical card taps and QR payments do not qualify for Visa’s 100% offer, which requires a tokenized card in wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, MODO or participating bank apps.
  • Automatic credits post within up to 20 business days, extending to 30 days for payments made through MODO.
  • Riders can multiply savings by using multiple Visa cards since caps apply per card, and a wide roster of banks and fintechs participate, including Nación, Santander, BBVA, Galicia, ICBC, Ciudad, Hipotecario and Naranja X.
  • Other deals run in parallel, including Mastercard’s 60% NFC rebate (ARS 15,000 cap) and 30% for other contactless (ARS 12,000 cap), Ualá’s up to 60% offer (ARS 15,000 cap), and BBVA and BNA+ promotions, while SUBE’s tiered discounts remain exclusive to SUBE and QR bus payments expand via Mercado Pago.
