Drones, a redshirt junior, recorded 1,562 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and 336 rushing yards across nine games despite missing three due to injury.
Watson, a redshirt freshman, stepped up in Drones' absence, throwing for 254 yards and a touchdown in a key win over Virginia to secure bowl eligibility.
The announcement follows significant coaching staff changes, including the dismissal of the offensive line coach, defensive coordinator, and strength and conditioning director.
Virginia Tech, currently 6-6, is set to face Minnesota in the Duke's Mayo Bowl on January 3, while two other players, Malachi Thomas and Braelin Moore, have entered the transfer portal.
