Virginia Man Arrested for Role in Capitol Riot
Accused of stealing from senators' desks while wearing a Captain America backpack during the Jan. 6, 2021, disturbance.
- Ryan Joseph Orlando, a 28-year-old from Arlington, Virginia, was arrested on charges including theft of government property, disorderly conduct and unauthorized entry on the floor of a House of Congress.
- Orlando is accused of storming the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot while wearing a Captain America backpack.
- He allegedly stole a pen from the desk of Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and a drink coaster from the desk of Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia.
- Surveillance video captured Orlando entering the Capitol through a fire door on the west side of the building and reentering through a broken window after being removed by police.
- Approximately 1,200 people have been charged with Capitol riot-related federal crimes, with nearly 900 having pleaded guilty or been convicted, and over 700 sentenced, receiving prison sentences ranging from three days to 22 years.
