Virginia High School Runner Struck in Head with Baton During Relay Race

Brookville High School's Kaelen Tucker suffered a concussion and possible skull fracture after being hit by an opponent during a state championship event.

The incident occurred during the 4x200 meter relay race at the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championships held at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Kaelen Tucker, a junior at Brookville High School, was struck in the head by a baton wielded by a competitor from IC Norcom High School after overtaking her on the track.
Tucker was diagnosed with a concussion and a possible skull fracture, forcing her to withdraw from the race and ending her participation in the event.
The IC Norcom team was disqualified for 'contact interference,' but no apology has been issued by the opposing runner or her coaches, according to Tucker's family.
The Virginia High School League has launched an investigation into the incident, with both schools reportedly cooperating.
