Overview
- Launched in May 2023 by Fundación del Dr. Simi and Farmacias Similares, the Comedor Simi offers subsidized meals to address food insecurity in Latin America’s largest food market.
- Since its opening the weekday service has served thousands of informal workers, street dwellers and minors who often lack consistent access to balanced nutrition.
- For a fixed price of 20 pesos each diner receives a daily rotating main course, rice or beans, flavored water, tortillas and a piece of fruit.
- The comedor operates Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at stall 263, pasillo 2, inside the Central de Abasto de Iztapalapa.
- The initiative extends Farmacias Similares’ low-cost healthcare model to include nutritional justice as part of its broader corporate social responsibility efforts.
