Overview
- A violent storm that struck Friday night in the Sächsische Schweiz left a 28-year-old man dead, at least three people seriously injured, about ten others treated and roughly 40 people evacuated as rescue teams searched the damaged, tree-strewn slopes.
- The same overnight storms triggered dozens of emergency calls across Bavaria and other states, causing fallen trees, power outages, flooded underpasses, disrupted rail routes and multiple local rescue operations including people pulled from a gravel bank in the Isar river near Moosburg.
- A large forest fire near Freudenberg drew a major multi-agency response of roughly 200–330 personnel; authorities now report the blaze is under control after burning about 5.7 hectares while several firefighters were hurt and operations continue to fully secure the site.
- A separate blaze on the former Jüterbog military training area remains active across roughly 300 hectares and requires specialized equipment and restricted access because of unexploded munitions in the ground.
- Investigators at a Rothsee fire found traces suggesting people had been present and possibly grilling, the criminal police have opened an inquiry, and officials warn that persistent heat and dry vegetation across Europe are raising ignition risk and could keep emergency services under pressure.
