Overview
- VinFast and the state signed an MoU allocating roughly 200 hectares in SIPCOT Thoothukudi next to the current facility.
- The investment will add dedicated workshops plus production, assembly and testing lines for electric buses and e-scooters.
- Tamil Nadu will facilitate permits, connect utilities and build internal infrastructure while applying applicable incentives and exemptions.
- The existing Thoothukudi plant spans about 160 hectares with an initial 50,000-unit annual capacity that is being scaled to 150,000.
- The move fits a wider EV ecosystem buildout in India, with 24 dealers already operating and a target of 35 by year-end.
