VinFast Begins Production at First Overseas EV Plant in Tamil Nadu

The plant launches VinFast’s production outside Vietnam, setting the stage for exports to South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Overview

  • The Thoothukudi facility was inaugurated on August 4 by Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin and rolled out its first VF7, with assembly of VF6 and VF7 SUVs now under way.
  • Initial capacity is 50,000 vehicles per year, scalable to 150,000, supported by a $500 million first-phase investment within VinFast’s $2 billion India strategy.
  • The SIPCOT park location near Thoothukudi port and local incentives aim to turn the plant into VinFast’s main export hub for South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
  • VinFast is also building a 35-showroom network across 27 cities by year-end, highlighted by its 4,700 sq ft flagship outlet in Chennai’s Teynampet district.
  • Partnerships with RoadGrid, myTVS, Global Assure and BatX Energies will establish nationwide charging infrastructure, after-sales support and battery recycling services.
