Overview

  • Australian Jay Vine of UAE Emirates claimed stage six to Pal-Andorra with a solo climb from a breakaway for his third career Vuelta stage win.
  • Torstein Traeen of Bahrain Victorious finished second on the day to take the overall lead, while Jonas Vingegaard dropped to fifth at 2:33 after reaching the line with the favorites several minutes later.
  • João Almeida is now UAE’s best-placed general-classification rider, sitting seven seconds behind Vingegaard, after teammate Juan Ayuso cracked and lost more than 10 minutes on the final ascent.
  • The shake-up came a day after the 24.1 km team time trial in Figueres, where UAE won in 25:26 and Visma-Lease a Bike finished eight seconds slower as Vingegaard briefly regained the red jersey.
  • That time trial was briefly interrupted when pro-Palestinian protesters blocked Israel-Premier Tech, with the team condemning the incident, local police reporting one arrest, and the race director urging that demonstrations remain peaceful.
