Overview

  • Full flow from the Serones reservoir was restored on June 29, and subsequent nighttime tests certified the tap water as safe for drinking and all household uses.
  • Manganese concentrations had peaked at 200 µg/L, surpassing the 80 µg/L legal limit that led the Junta de Castilla y León to declare the water not fit for consumption.
  • Three units of the Unidad Militar de Emergencias supported repair work and leak detection along the aging 20 km pipeline between Serones and the treatment plant.
  • During the four-day interruption, the Ayuntamiento supplied water from the Becerril and Fuentes Claras reservoirs and distributed bottled water to six annexed neighborhoods and vulnerable groups.
  • Mayor Jesús Manuel Sánchez Cabrera said the council will study compensation for affected residents and consider a proposed €8.5 million full replacement of the Serones pipeline.
