Overview
- The state announced on Monday that it has approved comprehensive packages for the two Assembly seats won by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, covering water, irrigation, land titles, farm storage, education and civic works.
- Dharapuram will get a Rs 1,439-crore Cauvery combined drinking-water scheme to extend piped supply to about 1,232 rural habitations, add overhead tanks and provide roughly 13,000 household connections.
- A Rs 10-crore desilting programme was sanctioned for Tiruppur district to clear 159 irrigation works and a 271-km network of canals, aiming to restore agricultural water flow and boost farm productivity.
- The package also includes immediate social measures such as 2,700 free house-site pattas in Dharapuram and expedited patta issuance for 87 long-standing informal settlers, plus new schools, a women’s college and health upgrades in Madurantakam.
- Officials were ordered to prepare DPRs and begin implementation work, which means most items are at the planning or departmental roll-out stage now and will require phased construction, clearances and funding disbursement before benefits reach residents.
