Vigo’s New Master Plan Takes Effect, Launching Housing and Urban Works

City hall begins permitting thousands of homes under the new rules to jump-start supply.

Overview

  • The Concello has opened processing for 5,500 homes under the PXOM, about 4,000 of them protected, the mayor said.
  • The plan programs €876 million in investment split between the city and private developers (34% each), the Xunta (20%), the central government (9.7%) and the Diputación (3.1%).
  • Urban green areas are slated to nearly double to 4.8 million square meters, with a major corridor along the Lagares river.
  • Priority works include the PO-010 road link, a semipedestrian redesign of Plaza de España, and coordination with the Transport Ministry to soften the AP-9’s urban impact.
  • Early actions advance industrial and commercial regeneration such as the Panificadora and Grupo Álvarez sites, the La Artística PERI’s environmental review, and retail developments at PERI Cruceiro in Alcabre and Recaré–Ferreiras.
